Back in the Windy City

A bit of a change of scenery from my last post!  Roibeard and I moved to Chicago in September.  I wish it didn't take me quite so long to start posting again, but it's so hard to get back into a 'normal' routine when you're working two jobs.  I miss California a lot more than I thought I would.  When I dream I'm usually still there. San Francisco just wasn't the right place for me.  Roibeard has family there though and I have my brother in San Diego, so the nice thing is we always have an excuse to go back and visit.

I can't even begin to stress how strange it is living in a city that you've lived in during a different part of your life.  Every day feels so surreal like I'm merely an observer of a distant memory.  I first moved to Chicago when I was 19 and just starting college.  I lived here until I was 26.  Now at *eep* 30 I'm back to the place where I first discovered life on my own terms.

To make things even stranger I'm working back at my old job at Landmark Theatres.  Well, sort of my old job.  They did away with all of the 35mm projectors (bastards) so I'm no longer a projectionist but merely a sole box office enthusiast.  I only work there a few days of the week though.  Most days I'm at my other job where I work in the kitchen for a European Sandwich shop.

I plan on updating my resume soon and starting to look for a nice film job, but for now I'm happy.  It may not be art related, but I get to work with my hands every day which makes me a lot happier than I would be answering phones all day in some stuffy office.

Oh and my outfit...the dress is vintage and was given to me by my good friend from middle school.  It belonged to a family member of hers and she gave it to me years ago.  It is the perfect dress for winter.  It is heavy.  I mean really heavy.  It's pretty much like wearing a wool coat that is shaped like a dress....sooooo warm!  Oh and it has pockets!!!  The floral brooch is also vintage and was a great thrift find a few years back.

Anyway, hope you all have a great week, thanks for reading!

  1. That's a beautiful dress, and goes so well with your lovely hair. Transitions are always difficult - going through one myself now, so I can relate. It's good that you're happy though!
